WoW Classic 20th Anniversary Edition

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone and welcome to another InstantCarry blog post. In celebration of Warcraft’s 30th Anniversary, Blizzard will launch all-new World of Warcraft Classic realms on November 21 at 2:00 p.m. PST. These fresh Anniversary realms will offer a unique opportunity for players to experience WoW Classic from the beginning, with PvP, Normal PvE, and Hardcore rulesets.

Realm Sizes and Rulesets

Each realm will support larger populations than previous Classic realms, and Blizzard is launching with just one realm per ruleset (PvE, PvP, and Hardcore) to ensure each one has a robust, sustainable player base. If needed, additional realms may be added based on demand.

To manage the influx, realm capacity will gradually increase in real time at launch, so players may encounter queues early on.

Progression to The Burning Crusade

Blizzard has confirmed that PvE and PvP Anniversary realms will eventually progress to The Burning Crusade Classic after moving through all Classic Era content phases. However, the Hardcore realms will remain dedicated to the Classic 1-60 journey, as the added challenge of Burning Crusade content doesn’t align with Hardcore’s mechanics.

#NoChanges and #Changes Approach

While these realms aim to capture the Classic experience, some quality-of-life updates will be in place from the start:

  • Updates: Reporting system, Dethroning for guild leadership transfer, Chronoboon Displacer (stackable to 10), improved PvP Honor Ranking, and updated graphics.
  • Looking for Group (LFG) Tool: A new LFG tool will allow players to manually create, join, and browse parties, enhancing group play without deviating too far from the Classic experience.
  • Services Chat Channel: For advertising portals, summons, and buffs, this dedicated chat channel will keep general chat clutter-free.

Hardcore Rules and Content Progression

For the first time, Hardcore Anniversary realms will progress through Classic Era content phases alongside Normal and PvP realms. Molten Core and Onyxia raids will unlock on December 12, PST, giving players time to level and enjoy the journey.

Hardcore-specific features:

  • Restricted Abilities: Paladins cannot bubble hearth, Shamans’ Reincarnation and Warlocks’ Soulstones won’t function, and Duel to the Death (Mak’gora) is back.
  • Self-Found Option: Players can create Self-Found characters, unable to trade, send mail, or use the auction house, for an added level of challenge.

Faction Balance on PvP Realms

Following the success of enforced faction balance on Season of Discovery realms, this feature will be applied to the new Anniversary PvP realms, ensuring a nearly equal Horde and Alliance population.

GDKP Policy

In line with the policy on Season of Discovery realms in NA and EU, GDKP runs will be prohibited on Anniversary realms in these regions. This aims to preserve traditional guild and social structures, aligning with the classic spirit of WoW.

Character Transfers

On these realms:

  • Transfers are unavailable, except for Hardcore characters moving to a Normal realm.
  • PvP and PvE characters must remain within their realm types.

Launch Details

The Anniversary realms go live on November 21 at 2:00 p.m. PST. Blizzard invites players old and new to embark on this Classic journey, honoring the legacy of World of Warcraft as they step back into Azeroth from the beginning.
