Most secondary stats from Phase 1 become obsolete when Black Temple and Sunwell gear arrives with higher item levels and better stat budgets. Haste does not follow this pattern. Every point of Haste on a trinket proc reduces the time between auto-attacks by the same amount regardless of what phase of the expansion you are in — and because the Dragonspine Trophy procs 325 Haste Rating in a single burst, the per-proc value of the trinket remains completely unchanged from the first week you equip it through the last raid night of the entire expansion.
This is why sim craft analyses and community BiS lists from every phase of TBC Classic consistently place the Dragonspine Trophy in the best-in-slot or near-best-in-slot trinket slot for Enhancement Shamans, Hunters, Warriors, and Rogues throughout Phases 1 through 6. The classes that benefit most are those with the highest auto-attack contribution to total DPS — where Haste’s attack speed acceleration translates most directly into raw output — but the trinket remains competitive for any physical DPS spec that scales with attack speed.
The drop rate from Gruul the Dragonkiller is estimated at approximately 10-15% per kill, meaning statistically a player runs Gruul’s Lair an average of 7-10 times before seeing it drop.
