Did Blizzard Tease Warlords of Draenor and Legion Classic? WoW Classic Roadmap Revealed January 29

INTRODUCTION

Blizzard recently released “The Next Chapter”, a retrospective video celebrating 35 years of Blizzard history — and WoW players immediately noticed something interesting.

The video prominently featured every World of Warcraft expansion up to Legion. However, Battle for Azeroth, Shadowlands, and Dragonflight were completely absent from the final montage. The closing scene focused heavily on the Legion box art, leaving many players wondering:

Is Blizzard subtly teasing Warlords of Draenor Classic… and possibly Legion Classic?

The timing makes the speculation even louder, because Blizzard has officially confirmed that a WoW Classic roadmap will be revealed on January 29th.

Why Warlords of Draenor Classic Might Be Closer Than We Think

On the surface, Warlords of Draenor (WoD) is one of the most controversial expansions in WoW history. It had strong raid design and leveling zones — but also a major content drought that led to significant subscription losses.

So why would Blizzard bring it back?

There are two strong indicators:

  1. Mists of Pandaria Classic is nearing its final raid tier. Once Siege of Orgrimmar concludes, the next logical progression step is Draenor.

  2. WoD pre-patch class changes are already active in MoP Classic. This suggests Blizzard may already be preparing the groundwork.

If Classic progression continues as it has since 2019, Warlords is the next step in the timeline.

The bigger question becomes:
If Draenor happens… does Legion follow?

Legion Classic: Far-Fetched or Inevitable?

Legion Classic might sound unlikely at first. After all, many players once believed Cataclysm Classic and MoP Classic would never happen either — yet here we are.

Legion remains one of the most popular expansions in modern WoW history, praised for:

  • Class Order Halls

  • Artifact Weapons

  • Mythic+ system launch

  • Strong raid tiers

  • Massive class identity focus

Blizzard also recently ran a Legion Remix event in Retail, which some players believe may be testing systems or building hype around Legion-era content.

Could this be coincidence? Maybe.

But combined with the video stopping at Legion — and the exclusion of later expansions — it feels deliberate.

Where Does WoW Classic Actually End?

This is the real question.

WoW Classic began as a preservation project for Vanilla. Since then, it has evolved into a full expansion progression ecosystem:

  • Vanilla

  • The Burning Crusade

  • Wrath of the Lich King

  • Cataclysm

  • Mists of Pandaria

  • Anniversary servers progressing into TBC

At what point does “Classic” stop being Classic?

Many players have had the same character since 2019. Some are approaching six years of continuous progression. If MoP transitions to Warlords — and then to Legion — we are essentially recreating the entire modern expansion timeline.

Will Blizzard eventually create:

  • MoP Era servers?

  • Warlords Era servers?

  • Permanent “snapshot” realms for each expansion?

  • Or a reset with something entirely new?

Right now, we don’t know.

The Anniversary Servers & Classic’s Parallel Future

It’s also important to remember that the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary servers launch February 5th, creating a second parallel Classic progression path.

This means Blizzard is currently managing:

  • MoP Classic progression

  • Anniversary TBC progression

  • Hardcore Vanilla realms

  • Retail Midnight pre-expansion

If Legion Classic were announced, it would represent the boldest commitment yet to long-term Classic expansion continuity.

January 29: The Roadmap Reveal

For the past three years, Blizzard has delivered annual roadmaps outlining the future of WoW Classic. Right now, players are feeling that familiar tension: speculation without confirmation.

The January 29th roadmap reveal could answer:

  • Is Warlords of Draenor Classic officially next?

  • Will Legion Classic follow?

  • Are Era servers coming for MoP or TBC?

  • Is there an entirely new Classic project in development?

Blizzard has been quiet — but the “Next Chapter” video may have been anything but subtle.

CONCLUSION

Blizzard knows what it’s doing with marketing. Ending the anniversary montage on Legion while excluding later expansions was not random.

Whether it’s a soft teaser for Warlords, Legion, or simply a nostalgic highlight reel, the timing — paired with the upcoming roadmap reveal — has the Classic community watching closely.

One thing is certain:

WoW Classic isn’t slowing down.
It’s evolving.

And on January 29th, we may finally see how far into the future Classic is willing to go.
