Read our New World – First Expansion: Rise of the Angry Earth post. Here we will talk about all the changes coming to New World with it’s first expansion Rise of the Angry Earth. There are various new things that are being added to the game and many things that are being fixed by the development team to make the game more appealing to the Players. Before we go further into it, lets look back at the history of New World so far!

A bit about New World and its history

New World is an MMORPG that was developed by Amazon Games Studio. It was released on the 28th of September 2021. The game is set on a fictional Island in the Atlantic Ocean known as Aeternum. In this game you can form groups of up to 5 members, do various content together, gather many materials, craft items, explore the world, quest, gain control over settlements, pick between joining one of the three factions – The Marauders, Syndicate or Covenant and much more.

Even before the release of New World, the game has gained a lot of popularity. This was in majority due to the marketing done by AGS, Players wanting a new experience and the wishful thinking of a game that could potentially be on par with World of Warcraft, the leading MMO since 2004. Unfortunately, all of this ended up as only wishful thinking. Even though New World had one of the best game releases in recent history, it failed in many aspects and it couldn’t keep the Players. The game eventually ‘died’ out and the Players that wanted to play it, ended up disappointed.

This is where the first expansion New World: Rise of the Angry Earth comes in, as an attempt to save Aeternum and potentially bring Players back and keep them there. Without further ado, lets get into it!

What can we expect from Rise of the Angry Earth expansion?

The planned launch of New World: Rise of the Angry Earth is set for October 3rd 2023. The price of the expansion is set for $29.99 and $69.99 for those who don’t have the base game. You must have the base game in order to play Rise of the Angry Earth. There are many new things that are being implemented and that you will be able to experience with the first expansion.
Those are:

  • The New Story
  • Mounts
  • Increased Character Progression 
  • New Gear Rarity: Artifacts
  • New Weapon: Flail
  • Transformed Zone: Elysian Wilds
  • New Expedition: The Savage Divide
  • New Heartrune Ability: Primal Fury

As you can see even at first glance, there are many new things coming with the New World – First Expansion: Rise of the Angry Earth. We will now focus on covering all of the updates in detail.

New World Storyline

New World AeternumThe game is set during the 17th century on the fictional island called Aeternum. It’s located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and it’s overflowing with a powerful resource called Azoth. This resource is believed to be the source of eternal life and it can be used to greatly enhance anything it comes into contact with. Many adventurers are lured to Aeternum thinking they can find limitless treasure, fame and glory there.

When you first log into the game, you are one of those adventurers. You are a pirate on a ship whose captain is going to the island despite the warnings of a mysterious robed figure that provides them with the coordinates and a mysterious glowing box. As it happens, the ship gets caught into a storm and you get shipwrecked on the Island.

The Awakening

After the shipwreck, you wake up on the shores of the island and you are immediately engaged in combat with a feral man. When you defeat him, you realize that your captain is dying nearby from the injuries he sustained during the wreck. Before succumbing to his wounds he asks you about the whereabouts of the mysterious box. After that, you have to fight your way through many “Soulless Drowned”, before coming across your Captain once again, this time he is resurrected, but has supernatural abilities.

The idea with this start, was to put emphasis that the Azoth on Aeternum has the power to resurrect anyone or anything that dies on the island. This resurrection causes everything to be reborn in it’s purest form. Basically if you were good, you’d resurrect being even more so, and vice versa. In this case the captain, who was greedy, returns to life with dark powers. After you defeat him, you make it to the beach where your true adventure begins. You are free to forge your own path through the game, and learn more about Aeternum along the way.

The Ancients

New World MonumentIn New World, wherever you choose to go, you will encounter evidence of an ancient civilization that lived on the island long before the first humans settled there. These beings are called “Ancients”. They were so advanced and could harness Azoth to advance their civilization dramatically. However, this lead to their eventual downfall.

From what we know, they were involved in an ancient conflict, even though it’s not clear if they were all defeated or if some of them managed to run away. All that remains of this advanced civilization in New World are their soulless magical warriors who guard their ruined monuments.

At the center of Aeternum you will find Everfall. It is one of the most prominent monuments, the shattered Obelisk. It is believed that it holds the secrets to their technology as well as the purpose of the towers that can be found all around the island.

The Corruption

During the experiments that the Ancients performed, they unleashed a force known as “Corruption”. It is drawn to anyone who exhibits vices like anger or greed. It can invade their bodies with the intent of spreading its dark influence. It can also take over the bodies of wild animals and beasts, bending them to its will.

The Corrupted are lead by an evil Empress and they seek to corrupt the whole of Aeternum. Beings that are corrupted have a visible red glow around their bodies and in their eyes.

New World Factions

New World FactionsWhat would an MMORPG be without factions that battle each other and try to overcome the others to prove their dominance in the game. New World is no different, and it offers three factions that you can choose from. Those are:

  • The Marauders are a ruthless military force that is bent on establishing a free nation where anyone with strength will profit and prosper.
  • The Covenant are a fanatical order that charged itself with cleansing the land of heretics and defilers, so that the nature can flourish and justice is restored.
  • The Syndicate are a secretive organization that is focused on ushering a new age of enlightenment.

Every faction has it’s own merits and if for some reason you want to change your faction, you can do that – but it will cost you Azoth!

New World: Rise of the Angry Earth Story

The New World: Rise of the Angry Earth brings us a continuation of the storyline. First Light has fallen. The place that was once a welcoming place for newcomers to Aeternum has been ravaged by the Angry Earth. We are not certain what becomes of the people and villages that populated the area, and a deadly barrier has kept all but the fearless from attempting to find out.

With this change to the Aeternum there is an abundance of earthly powers that has awakened the dormant Beast Lords. Judging by the trailer, we can only assume that these will be the new adversaries that we will be facing. However, with them there also comes a boon, which is a secret to taming and riding animals.

Mounts in Rise of the Angry Earth

Rise of the Angry Earth - MountsNew World’s first expansion – Rise of the Angry Earth is bringing us something that any MMO should have. Of course, we are talking about Mounts! Having the ability to tame and ride a beast companion is something that this game was missing and with the Rise of the Angry Earth, we are getting just that. Players will be able to summon a mount for faster travel throughout Aeternum. You will be able to pick from three different beasts which can be customizable and have a unique look, as well as a name that you can give them. Those are:

  • Horses
  • Dire Wolves
  • Lions

Whichever you prefer, these mounts will double your standard sprinting speed. You will be able to summon these beasts to you at any point while out of combat. As you progress, you will earn mount buffs and attachments that will enable you to personalize the mount further.

You will have to complete Quests and Feed your mount to gain Riding XP and level up your Riding Trade Skill. Various rewards await you as you become a better rider. The summoning takes 2 seconds and can be done only outside of combat, and any PvP damage will cancel the summon. Taking any damage from another Player will dismount you and dismiss the mount. However, there will be a degree of tolerance towards enemies that pose no significant threat.

After gaining enough experience you will be able to obtain various buffs from having a mount, we are still not aware exactly what will each of them give, but we do know that the buffs will differ depending on the type of beast that you have as a companion.

Rise of the Angry Earth – Character Progression changes

Rise of the Angry Earth Character Progression New WorldCharacter progression is one of the most satisfying things in any game, more so in any MMORPG game. When it comes to New World, we have three main areas of character progression.

  • The Leveling progression – You gain experience towards your overall character level and will leve up once you gain enough XP. Upon leveling up you will be awarded attribute points that can be used to increase one of the 5 main attributes in game. The main attributes being Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Focus and Constitution. Once you reach maximum level, the progression shifts from leveling up your character to leveling up your Expertise & Gear Score.
  • Weapon Type progression – You also gain experience for each weapon type you use in the game. Once you gain enough experience for a particular weapon, you will be awareded a weapon mastery point that can be spent on either active or passive abilities within that weapon’s skill tree.
  • Trade Skill progression – Last but not least, the trade skill progression. Trade skills consist of Gathering, Refining and Crafting Profession and it also has a Music Trade Skill.

With the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion the level cap will go up to 65, Gear Score to 700 with the addition of new attributes that will help empower your builds. The Trade Skill will be increased to level 250 with various new items that you can gather, refine and craft. You will also be able to complete the new Faction Quest that will help you unlock a new Faction Tier with amazing gear and items.

New Gear Rarity: Artifacts

Rise of the Angry Earth Item RarityThe Gear Rarity in New World is something that has quite a big impact on your character. When it comes to how we can compare items, it’s probably best to say that Gear Score always has the upper hand. This means that if you find or create an item that has higher Gear Score, it will always be better than the item with lower Gear Score. However, if you have two items of the same Gear Score, you will have to look at the Rarity of the item to determine which is better. In most MMORPG games the Rarity indicates that the item is cooler, but in New World it works a bit differently. It indicates the number of PERKS the item has. Perks are a special feature that empower an item. There are currently 5 levels of Rarity in New World. Those are:

  • Common – 0 Perks
  • Uncommon – 1 Perk
  • Rare – 2 Perks
  • Epic – 3 Perks
  • Legendary – Named and Legendary items have curated Perks and fixed Gear Scores

The system is simple and straightforward. When you look at the item in the inventory you always know how many perks it has. The only items that did not follow the rule were Named and Legendary items. They may have a different number of perks.

With the first New World expansion Rise of the Angry Earth, we are being introduced to a new item rarity called Artifact. These are a powerful new tier of weapons and armor. You will have to complete a series of Quests in order to awaken the Artifact’s full potential by unlocking its SIX PERKS including one unique playstyle-defining perk that will be a game changer.

New Weapon: Flail 

The Flail is a versatile one-handed weapon with the option for an offhand shield. You will be able to use arcane magic to enhance attacks and buff allies or debuff enemies. Through the combination of melee, arcane magic and strong defenses, the one wielding this weapon will be able to increase the groups effectiveness without the risk of losing the offensive potential.

Transformed Zone: Elysian Wilds

With the coming of the New World: Rise of the Angry Earth expansion, we will see something that is rarely seen in the MMO’s. We will get a complete overhaul of a zone in the game. By doing this Amazon is basically reducing the starting zones from FOUR down to THREE. This zone-wide apocalyptic scenario is happening amidst the awakening of the Beast Lords which are reshaping it and want to get rid of all humanity.

The southeaster tip of Aeternum, formerly known as First Light, has been invaded by the powers of Artemis and the Angry Earth. We will be able to explore the newly raised structures in this new landscape and battle ferocious beasts that have taken refuge in the ravaged terrain. It is expected that First Light zone will get a new name.

Important thing to note: If you owned any housing, furniture or decorations in these zones, you will be fully refunded for the housing and other additions will be sent to your storage. Additionally, the First Light fort bonus will be moved. However, the development team is assuring us that we will get everything back.

Rise of the Angry Earth – New Expedition: The Savage Divide

Rise of the Angry Earth - The Savage DivideExpeditions are essentially Dungeons. These are five-Player instances that will take you to the darkest corners of Aeternum. You will face formidable enemies and Bosses, learn about the source of the Corruption and expose the Angry Earth‘s plans. You will also be able to reveal what is behind the Lost, and delve into the secrets of the ancient Guardians.

Each of the expeditions has it’s own story and provides you with a unique experience. Most of all, they provide you with abundance of loot and gear that is unique. This way the Players are incentivized to explore and delve into them all across Aeternum. In successive expeditions, the mechanics and puzzles are going to vary. For example, boss mechanics can differ and loot tables will be unique for each individual expedition.

Important note: You can alter expeditions with Mutators.

The New World: Rise of the Angry Earth expansion will bring us a new Dungeon called “The Savage Divide”. It is a Level 62+ Expedition where you will track down the primordial Beast Lords and stop them before all hell breaks loose.

New Heartrune Ability: Primal Fury

A Heartrune or a Heartgem Rune is an ultimate ability in New World. Once you obtain the item you can equip it like any other. You open your inventory and drag it to it’s appropriate slot. Once you have it equipped you can utilize it like an ability. There are several different types of Heartgems in the game and each have unique abilities.

With the release of the first New World expansion Rise of the Angry Earth, a new Heartrune Ability will be added to the game. This Heartrune is Primal Fury, which will enable you to unleash your inner beast and deal unarmed Light and heavy attacks on your enemies.

New World – Season 3 Content Updates

With the coming of the New World – First Expansion: Rise of the Angry Earth, we also get the Season 3 release. What better time to introduce a new Season, but with the new expansion and all the changes that are coming with it. Amazon Games developers have worked hard to bring as much content as possible, as well as try to revive the New World franchise with various updates, a new expansion and a new season. New World Season 3 will bring us the following:

  • New Season Pass
  • New Influence Races
  • New Main storyline quest revamp: Edengrove and Great Cleave
  • Ward, Bane, Resilience and Expertise removal
  • Seasonal Events

Season Pass for New World Season 3

As with each Season, the Season Pass will receive an update and we will be introduced with a new Season Journey, Activity Card, new Challenges and various rewards.

New World Season 3: New Influence Races

We will be able to capture new Influence Towers and strike down enemy Factions in open world combat for territorial supremacy. In this dynamic and strategic battlefield, each Faction engages in a relentless competition for Influence within specific zones during scheduled times. This is fueled by a multitude of factors, including PvP Missions, Influence Towers, and Forts.

When an attacking Faction manages to amass enough Influence through their PvP Missions and the strategic capture of Influence Towers and Forts before the race concludes. These efforts are rewarded with not only bonus rewards but also the opportunity to declare War. This declaration sets the stage for a larger-scale conflict that can shape the fate of the entire region.

However, if the defending Faction successfully thwarts the attackers’ attempts to accumulate sufficient Influence within the designated time limit, they earn valuable bonus rewards for their defense in both the Influence Race and the impending War. This resilience not only boosts their standing but also raises the stakes for the conflict.

Additionally, regardless of the ultimate victor, the attacking Faction that emerges with the highest Influence total is granted the authority to escalate the ongoing conflict into a full-fledged War. This twist ensures that even in the face of adversity, the balance of power remains, making each Influence Race a thrilling chapter in the ongoing saga of territorial dominance and strategic maneuvering.

Rise of the Angry Earth: Main storyline quest revamp for Edengrove and Great Cleave

With the coming of the New World – First Expansion: Rise of the Angry Earth and with Season 3 of the game, we will also be introduced to a complete overhaul of the main storyline for Edengrove and the Great Cleave. Amazon developers said that these changes are being implemented due to Player feedback and improvements are made so that the Players can have a more pleasant experience in the starting zones.

You will also be able to experience these familiar zones through fresh narratives, more quest variety and some surprises that have yet to be public.

New World Season 3: Ward, Bane, Resilience and Expertise removal

Amazon is showing that they are listening to their Players and that they are doing everything they can to make the game popular and more appealing to the consumers. They are removing Creature Bane Perks, Creature Ward Perks, Resilience Perks, and Expertise. As a result, they are making the following balance changes:

  • For Banes, they are increasing the base damage of magic and ranged weapons in PvE to make them more effective alternatives to melee options against multiple enemies.
  • For Wards, they are making adjustments on the AI and encounter side to account for the removal of their defensive and offensive benefits.
  • For Resilience, they have added critical reduction to all players via the equip load effects (Light -15%, Medium -20%, Heavy -25%). Current items with this perk will receive the “Health” perk instead which increases the Player’s health as a certain percentage of their base health.
  • For Expertise, they are making adjustments to the Gear Score drops from all monsters based on their level.

More changes are yet to come as the PTR is live and they will keep us updated on further changes, but one is for certain they are listening to the Players and the community.

Seasonal Events

Events will continue to be free for all the Players. This Season includes the following:

  • Nightveil Hallow – the Halloween event. Various costumes are coming along with the return of Baalphazu, Marquis of Terror. You will have to banish the demon and his minions the ghoulish Pumpkinites for a chance at a temporary Mask skin, treats and other limited-time rewards.
  • Turkey Terror – Turkulon is back for revenge. You will have to hunt down the feathered menace and his army to earn new rewards.

CONCLUSION

The New World – First Expansion: Rise of the Angry Earth is definitely a game that should be checked out and looked into closely. They’ve definitely tried their best to improve the game and change things that were not working properly and bothered the Player-base.
