World of Warcraft: The War Within Latest News

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone and welcome to another InstantCarry blog post! The release of World of Warcraft: The War Within is just around the corner, and the prepatch has brought significant updates that have players excited. The changes to currency and gear collecting have made the process more enjoyable, and the introduction of Threads of Destiny has launched the first of the new “2.5D” animated cinematics. These cinematics dive into the story of Queen Ansurek and Xal’atath, with Xal’atath playing a prominent role.

In other news, the War Within beta has stirred up quite a bit of controversy, especially regarding transmog changes, leading to swift responses from the developers. Promises for patch 11.0.5, which is already encrypted on the PTR, include further adjustments. Players can also expect new class changes, the introduction of the new Mythic+ affix called “Devour,” and the full War Within soundtrack is now available, with Evi sharing her top picks from the World Soul Saga.

How the Devour Affix Works on The War Within Beta – Is It Afflicted 2.0?

One of the major changes in the War Within beta is the introduction of the Devour affix, also known as Xal’atath’s Bargain: Devour. This is the fourth Xal’atath affix and has some similarities to the removed Afflicted affix.

Here’s how the Devour affix works:

  • Void Rift: Xal’atath periodically casts Void Rift on all players. This ability applies a 53% health absorb shield to all players, and interestingly, it doesn’t scale with key level. It also deals 2% of maximum health every second and lasts for 15 seconds.
  • Dispelling: The absorb effect can be dispelled by any type of dispel (Poison, Curse, Disease, or Magic). If the effect isn’t dispelled within the 15-second window, it heals all enemies for 10% of their maximum health.
  • Lingering Void: If the healing absorb is healed off or the effect is dispelled, players gain a stack of Lingering Void. Gaining all 5 stacks grants players a 10% health boost and a 20% increase in crit chance.
  • Punishment: If the Void Rift effect is not removed in time, all enemies will gain a stack of Mending Void, healing them for 10% of their maximum health. This makes it crucial for players to either heal or dispel the effect quickly, similar to the old Afflicted affix week, where having extra dispellers was key to preventing mobs from healing.
  • Tools: Spells like Mass Dispel are invaluable for clearing a full wave instantly, while the Poison Cleansing Totem is also effective at managing this affix.

The introduction of the Devour affix adds a new layer of strategy to Mythic+ dungeons, requiring careful management of healing and dispels to avoid giving enemies an advantage.
