Understanding the Cham Rune
The Cham Rune is the 32nd rune in Diablo 2 Resurrected — one step below the Zod in the rune hierarchy and among the rarest drops in the game. Cham Runes are obtainable from Act 4 and Act 5 Hell treasure chests and from enemies in those areas, or through the Horadric Cube recipe combining 2 Jah Runes and 1 Flawless Ruby — available only in single-player, open, or ladder games. Socketing a Cham Rune raises an item’s level requirement to 67 unless the item’s requirement was already higher. On weapons it grants Freeze Target +3, while on body armor and helms it provides Cannot Be Frozen — one of the most valuable defensive properties in the game for builds that rely on attack speed. Cham is also a required ingredient in the Horadric Cube recipe to create a Zod Rune.
Runewords and Builds That Use Cham
The Cannot Be Frozen property from a single Cham-socketed helm or armor effectively replaces the need for a Raven Frost ring — freeing up a ring slot for offensive or resistance options. This makes Cham particularly valuable for Whirlwind Barbarians, Zealots, and other high attack-speed melee builds that would otherwise be slowed by chilling effects. Cham also appears in six runewords: Doom (Hel + Ohm + Um + Lo + Cham) for axes, polearms, and hammers; Hand of Justice (Sur + Cham + Amn + Lo) for weapons; Metamorphosis (Io + Cham + Fal) for helms on ladder; Mist (Cham + Shael + Gul + Thul + Ith) for missile weapons; Plague (Cham + Shael + Um) for swords, daggers, and claws; and Pride (Cham + Sur + Io + Lo) for polearms and spears.
