Desperate March solves a fundamental tension in Rogue trap gameplay — the conflict between mobility and trap coverage. A Rogue using Caltrops on the skill bar must choose between spending a global cooldown on trap placement or using that time for damage or movement. Desperate March removes this choice entirely. Every Evade — which the Rogue uses for repositioning regardless of build — simultaneously deploys an enhanced Caltrops at the departure point, converting a purely defensive movement action into a damage and crowd control placement with zero additional cost.
The 50% increased Size is significant in the context of how Caltrops functions as a zoning tool. Standard Caltrops covers a moderate ground area and slows enemies who step into it. A 50% larger Caltrops covers a substantially wider zone — wide enough that enemies pursuing a dodging Rogue cannot simply step around it without significant repositioning of their own. In Torment content where elite enemies pursue aggressively and have movement abilities of their own, the oversized Caltrops zone created by Desperate March provides meaningful crowd control coverage rather than a small patch that enemies walk past in a single step.
The 75–90% increased damage on the Evade-triggered Caltrops makes the trap a genuine damage source rather than purely a slow utility. At maximum roll of 90%, the Desperate March Caltrops hits for nearly double the damage of a standard Caltrops cast — and because it deploys on every Evade without consuming resources, a mobile Rogue who evades frequently generates a continuous stream of high-damage trap zones throughout any sustained fight. Combined with Caltrops upgrade investment for bleed, Critical Strike Chance enhancement, and the Bait the Trap passive, each Desperate March Caltrops becomes a fully upgraded damage trap dropped automatically on every dodge.
