Dirge of Odium is a Warlock-exclusive Unique Two-Handed Axe in Diablo 4 built around sustained high-Wrath maintenance. Your Basic Skills deal 0.4–0.5% increased damage for every point of Wrath you currently have — but you lose 10% of your Maximum Wrath per second passively. Every 50 Wrath you gain beyond your Maximum Wrath generates 1 Dominance. The design creates a clear optimization goal: maintain the highest possible Wrath pool at all times to maximize Basic Skill damage, while using the overflow mechanic to passively generate Dominance as a secondary resource benefit. The Maxroll Lunatic Warlock guide describes Dirge of Odium as a late-game power spike specifically paired with Tibault’s Will — recommending players aim for approximately 300 Maximum Wrath in combat once the weapon is equipped, and prioritizing Maximum Resources on charms to fuel the damage scaling consistently. A patch 3.0.3 fix on May 26, 2026 addressed an issue where the axe could remove more than 10% Maximum Wrath per second, confirming the correct behavior is exactly 10% drain. Dirge of Odium is named after odium — pure, concentrated hatred — a fitting title for a weapon that rewards the Warlock for maintaining a state of sustained aggressive pressure. The axe does not reward burst windows or cooldown management — it rewards maintaining the highest possible Wrath pool continuously through consistent Basic Skill spam and Maximum Resources investment, scaling its damage linearly with how much resource the player keeps loaded at any given moment.
The 10% per-second drain is the design constraint that gives Dirge of Odium its character as a high-commitment weapon rather than a passive damage boost. Any Warlock can equip a weapon that adds a flat damage percentage. Only a Warlock who invests specifically into Maximum Wrath and Wrath generation can sustain the 0.4–0.5% per-Wrath scaling at its upper range without the drain dropping the pool to levels where the damage multiplier becomes marginal. The weapon creates a resource management challenge where the ceiling of performance scales directly with how much optimization effort the player puts into the Wrath system.
As a Unique Charm via the Horadric Cube, Dirge of Odium keeps the full per-Wrath scaling and Dominance generation active through the Talisman slot while freeing the weapon slot for a two-handed axe with stronger offensive affixes — the configuration that mature Warlock builds transition toward when maximizing both the damage scaling and the raw stat contribution of the weapon slot simultaneously.
