Frostburn is a Unique pair of Gloves that any class can equip, which makes it one of the more flexible Uniques in Diablo 4. The core effect is straightforward: on a Lucky Hit, you have a chance to Freeze the enemy you hit, and once something is Frozen, you deal bonus damage to it. That combination means Frostburn isn’t just a crowd control tool, it’s also a damage amplifier, since Freezing something with one hit sets up every hit after it to land harder. Builds that already lean on Lucky Hit procs, like many Rogue and Sorcerer setups, get the most out of these gloves because they trigger the Freeze chance more consistently. Frostburn Mechanics Explained
Frostburn works on a two-step loop: first you Freeze, then you punish the Frozen target. Every Lucky Hit gives you a chance to apply a Freeze, and the moment that lands, the enemy can’t move or attack for a short window. That alone is useful as a defensive tool since it shuts down whatever the enemy was about to do, but the real value comes from the second part of the effect — once something is Frozen, you deal noticeably more damage to it. So the gloves aren’t just locking enemies in place, they’re actively setting up bigger hits right after.
Because this is built around Lucky Hit, how often you actually see the Freeze trigger depends a lot on how your build generates Lucky Hit chances in the first place. A build that’s already stacking Lucky Hit through skills, passives, or gear is going to proc Frostburn far more consistently than one that barely interacts with the mechanic at all. This is why Rogue and Sorcerer builds tend to get the most mileage out of these gloves specifically — both classes have skill trees built around frequent Lucky Hit procs, so Frostburn fits naturally into what they’re already doing rather than asking the build to change around it.
The Fire and Cold damage bonuses on the gloves round out the picture by giving you a reason to lean into either element, or both if your build supports it. Combined with the flat Attack Speed bonus, Frostburn ends up being a glove that rewards a fast, proc-heavy playstyle where you’re hitting often, freezing consistently, and following up with bonus damage before the Freeze wears off.
