Heart of Azgar is a Druid-exclusive Unique Chest Armor in Diablo 4 built around Maul, the Werebear’s primary melee skill. Each time Maul hits at least one enemy, its Attack Speed increases by 3% and its damage increases by 20–25% for 5 seconds — stacking up to 5 times for a maximum of 15% increased Attack Speed and 100–125% increased Maul damage at full stacks. Both stacks reset after 5 seconds without a Maul hit, rewarding sustained continuous Maul usage over burst rotations. Named after Azgar — a primal Werebear spirit whose strength was said to grow with every blow landed — the chest translates this escalating ferocity directly into a compounding damage and speed system that rewards staying in combat and hitting repeatedly. For Werebear Maul builds that want maximum single-target Maul output, Heart of Azgar is the dedicated chest piece in Season 13. Each of the five stack tiers adds another 20–25% damage and 3% Attack Speed, creating a compounding effect where the fourth and fifth stacks land faster than the first and second because the Attack Speed from earlier stacks has already accelerated the cast rhythm. At maximum stacks the chest delivers both the highest damage multiplier and the highest Attack Speed boost simultaneously, making the ramp-up period self-accelerating rather than linear.
Maul is Werebear’s foundational melee skill — a frontal swipe that deals significant physical damage to all enemies in range during Werebear form. Its role in Werebear builds has traditionally been as a Spirit generator that supports more expensive skills like Pulverize, but Heart of Azgar repositions it as a primary damage source in its own right. At five stacks dealing 100–125% increased damage, Maul hits significantly harder than its base damage would suggest — comparable to dedicated Core Skills in other builds while simultaneously generating the Spirit those builds need to sustain their rotation.
The 5-second stack timer creates a natural rhythm for Maul-focused gameplay. Continuous casting maintains all five stacks indefinitely. The stack system rewards tight melee engagement — staying in contact with enemies and landing hits without interruption — which Werebear form’s tankiness and survivability tools directly support. Grizzly Rage providing near-permanent Berserking through Fury of the Wilds ring during the combat window further amplifies the stacked Maul damage, making Heart of Azgar particularly powerful in builds that maintain all their damage systems simultaneously.
