Okun’s Catalyst is a Unique Focus built specifically for Sorcerers running Ball Lightning, and it completely changes how the skill behaves. Instead of Ball Lightning travelling in a straight line toward enemies, it orbits around you, creating a continuous static field that damages everything nearby for 140–180% of Ball Lightning’s damage per active ball. While that field is up, you also gain Unhindered, meaning you can move freely through enemies without being blocked. The more active Ball Lightnings you have orbiting at once, the more the field hits, making this a focus that rewards builds stacking Ball Lightning count rather than just casting it repeatedly in a single direction. The item also reduces your damage taken for each active Ball Lightning, giving you a built-in survivability bonus that scales with how many you have orbiting. Okun’s Catalyst can be target farmed from Lord Zir and also drops from Nightmare Dungeons, World Events, and general open-world loot. Okun’s Catalyst Mechanics Explained
The key thing Okun’s Catalyst does is change Ball Lightning from a directional projectile into something that stays with you. Normally, casting Ball Lightning sends it toward wherever you aim, which means you need to position carefully to make sure it travels through enemies. With Okun’s Catalyst equipped, it orbits around you instead, which means enemies close to you are continuously hit as long as the field is active, without you needing to aim at all.
This shift in how the skill works opens up a more aggressive melee-range playstyle for the Sorcerer. Because Ball Lightning no longer travels away from you, you’re rewarded for staying close to enemy packs rather than kiting them from a distance. The Unhindered effect makes this viable by letting you walk through enemies freely while the orbiting balls hit them, removing the usual problem of getting stuck on enemies when trying to stay in the middle of a group.
The damage scaling by number of active balls is what makes stacking Ball Lightning count the build’s main focus. Each extra orbiting ball adds another layer of field damage, and the 0.5–1.5% Damage Reduction per active ball means a Sorcerer with several orbiting simultaneously is both hitting harder and surviving better at the same time. The Attack Speed bonus after using a Defensive Skill and the chance for Ball Lightning projectiles to cast twice both support the same loop of staying mobile, casting frequently, and keeping as many active balls orbiting as possible.
