Ancients’ Oath is a Unique Two-Handed Axe built exclusively for the Barbarian and the weapon of choice for Steel Grasp-focused crowd control and debuff builds. Its Unique Effect does two things: Steel Grasp launches 2 additional chains beyond its base number, and every enemy pulled in by those chains takes 40–60% increased damage from you for 5 seconds afterward. More chains means more enemies caught in a single cast, and every enemy that gets hit becomes a debuffed target taking significantly more damage from all your follow-up attacks for the full 5-second window. Because affixes are randomized in Lord of Hatred, secondary stats will vary by roll, but the Unique Effect is always fixed. Ancients’ Oath drops from The Beast in the Ice and Grigoire and can also be found from Nightmare Dungeons, World Events, and general open-world loot.

Ancients’ Oath Mechanics Explained
Steel Grasp is a Barbarian skill that launches chains to pull enemies toward you. In its base form it fires a limited number of chains at once, which caps how many enemies can be pulled and debuffed in a single cast. Ancients’ Oath adds 2 extra chains to every cast, expanding how many enemies the skill reaches simultaneously and making it viable as an AoE setup tool in dense packs rather than a single-target utility skill.
The 40–60% increased damage debuff is where the weapon earns its place in a damage rotation. Every enemy pulled by Steel Grasp — now catching more targets per cast thanks to the extra chains — carries a 5-second vulnerability window during which every source of damage you deal hits that target harder. At 60% on a high roll, this is a meaningful multiplier that applies to all of your follow-up skills during the window, not just a specific skill type. This makes the weapon effective as a setup piece for any Barbarian build that already uses Steel Grasp for positioning, since the same cast that repositions enemies also opens a damage amplification window for the entire pack.
The 5-second duration gives enough time for a meaningful damage rotation after the pull. A Barbarian who lands Steel Grasp into a grouped pack and immediately follows with Hammer of the Ancients, Upheaval, or Whirlwind benefits from the full damage bonus across every hit of that follow-up before the debuff expires.
