Protection of the Prime is a Spiritborn-exclusive Unique pair of Pants in Diablo 4 built around two opposite playstyles — and rewarding both simultaneously. While you are moving you gain 10–30% Dodge Chance, making you harder to hit during active combat. If you stand still for 2 seconds you become Unstoppable, removing all crowd control effects and preventing new ones from being applied. On top of these two movement-state bonuses, dodging any attack triggers a 219–300% damage buff for 4 seconds — turning a successful dodge into a massive offensive window. The pants also reduce damage taken by 13–17.5% while standing still, making the stationary Unstoppable state meaningfully more durable. Protection of the Prime is one of the most thoughtfully designed pants slots in Diablo 4 because it does not simply provide static defensive stats — it rewards two fundamentally different combat approaches and gives both players a large damage bonus for playing well. The mobile player who keeps moving maintains Dodge Chance and converts successful dodges into 219–300% damage windows. The stationary player who holds position becomes Unstoppable and takes reduced damage. Both approaches produce meaningful advantages, and both can trigger the post-dodge damage burst regardless of whether they are moving or standing at the moment of the dodge.
The post-dodge damage multiplier is the offensive element that makes Protection of the Prime genuinely impactful beyond its defensive stats. 219–300% increased damage for 4 seconds is a substantial multiplier — at the maximum roll it more than triples your damage output during the window. For Spiritborn builds with high Dodge Chance from gear and the item’s own movement bonus, these windows trigger regularly throughout combat rather than occasionally, effectively raising your average damage output throughout any fight where dodges are occurring.
The Unstoppable-on-stationary mechanic is particularly valuable in high-Torment content where crowd control from Elite affixes is a genuine threat. Stunned or Frozen Spiritborn builds that lose mobility during a critical moment of a fight can suffer significant damage. Protection of the Prime eliminates this concern entirely for the stationary phase — two seconds of standing still converts you into a completely CC-immune combat state that cannot be interrupted by any crowd control source for as long as you remain in place.
