Razorplate is a Unique Chest Armor usable by every class in Diablo 4 and the dedicated item for any Thorns-focused build. Its entire design is built around a single mechanic: your Thorns damage has a 10% chance to deal 180–200% increased damage on any given proc. The chest itself also rolls four Thorns affixes, stacking a large base Thorns value on top of the proc multiplier, which means Razorplate both raises the floor of how much Thorns you deal on every hit and dramatically spikes it on the lucky procs. Because affixes are randomized in Lord of Hatred, the specific Thorns values on your roll will vary, but the Unique Effect is always fixed. Razorplate drops from Lord Zir and can also appear from general open-world loot, Nightmare Dungeons, and Helltide Events across all Torment difficulties.

Razorplate Mechanics Explained
Razorplate is unusual among Unique chest pieces in Diablo 4 because it abandons the standard defensive affix layout entirely in favour of stacking Thorns four times across all four affix slots. This means the item contributes no life, resistance, or armour in those slots — it converts the entire secondary affix budget into raw Thorns value. Combined with the 10% proc chance for 180–200% increased Thorns damage on any given hit, the chest effectively functions as both a Thorns stat stick and a proc multiplier in one item slot.
The way the proc interacts with high Thorns investment matters for understanding the item’s value ceiling. Thorns damage in Diablo 4 is dealt every time an enemy hits you with a melee attack, and the base Thorns value determines how much damage each of those hits returns. At 10% per hit, in a scenario where you are being hit frequently — like a dense Nightmare Dungeon pack or a multi-phase boss encounter with constant melee pressure — the proc fires at meaningful frequency. When it does, the 180–200% multiplier on top of a high Thorns base produces a very large burst of reflected damage against whatever hit you.
In Lord of Hatred, Razorplate also becomes particularly flexible through the Charm conversion system. Any Unique item can be converted into a Unique Charm through the Horadric Cube and slotted into the Talisman, which means the Razorplate’s Thorns proc can be active on any build without occupying the chest slot. This makes it relevant not just for dedicated Thorns builds that build their entire loadout around damage reflection, but for any build that runs a meaningful Thorns value as a secondary defensive layer.
