Strike of Stormhorn is a Unique Focus built for Sorcerers running Ball Lightning, and it does two things to the skill at once. First, Ball Lightning deals 40–60% more damage while this focus is equipped. Second, when a Ball Lightning reaches the end of its travel and dissipates, it explodes for an additional 40% of the total damage it accumulated during its flight. That explosion at the end of each Ball Lightning’s life is the key mechanic here — every cast not only hits enemies along the way, but also detonates when it runs out, turning the end of each projectile’s path into an extra damage event. The focus also rolls Critical Strike Damage, Ball Lightning Projectile Speed, extra ranks to Ball Lightning, and a chance for Ball Lightning projectiles to cast twice, making it a fully committed Ball Lightning damage piece from top to bottom. Strike of Stormhorn drops from Grigoire and The Beast in the Ice, and can also turn up in Nightmare Dungeons, World Events, and general open-world loot. Strike of Stormhorn Mechanics Explained
Strike of Stormhorn changes Ball Lightning by adding a payoff at the end of each projectile’s life that didn’t exist before. Normally, Ball Lightning deals damage to enemies it passes through while it travels, and that’s the end of it. With Strike of Stormhorn, once a Ball Lightning has travelled its full range and dissipates, it explodes and deals an additional 40% of the total damage it accumulated during that entire flight path. The longer the flight and the more enemies it hit along the way, the bigger that final explosion.
This changes how you think about positioning with the skill. Instead of just wanting Ball Lightning to pass through as many enemies as possible during its travel, you also want it to reach its full range so the dissipation explosion triggers correctly. Aiming Ball Lightning so it both hits enemies on the way and fully dissipates in a spot where more enemies are standing makes the most of both the travel damage and the explosion payoff at the end.
The 40–60% flat damage bonus applies to every single hit the Ball Lightning makes during its flight, not just to the explosion, which means the focus is boosting the skill’s output at every stage of its path. Combined with the Critical Strike Damage, Projectile Speed, extra Ball Lightning ranks, and the chance to cast twice, everything on Strike of Stormhorn points toward the same goal: making each individual Ball Lightning projectile as damaging as possible for as long as it travels.
