Windforce is one of the most recognizable Unique bows in Diablo 4, and it’s built specifically around the Rogue’s Barrage skill. Every hit from Barrage has a chance to deal double damage and knock the target down, which means a single cast can both hit harder than normal and stop enemies in their tracks at the same time. Windforce Mechanics Explained
Windforce takes Barrage, a skill that already covers a wide area with arrows, and adds two things to it: a real chance to hit twice as hard, and a way to physically control the battlefield through knockdown. The double damage chance and the knockdown aren’t separate rolls, either — when the proc happens, you get both at once, so the same hit that just spiked your damage also stops that enemy from acting. For a skill that’s already firing multiple projectiles per cast, having a meaningful chance for any of those hits to both crit harder and disable the target adds up fast in dense fights.
The bonus chance for Barrage projectiles to cast twice works alongside this in an obvious way: more projectiles per cast means more individual chances for that double damage and knockdown to trigger. Between the projectile count, the proc chance, and the flat ranks Windforce adds to Barrage itself, the bow is built to make Barrage your single dominant source of both damage and crowd control rather than splitting that job across multiple skills.
The Movement Speed bonus and the ranks in Malice round the bow out defensively and offensively at the same time. Moving faster means you can kite while Barrage is doing its job from range, and Malice’s bonus ranks support whatever your build is using it for, usually feeding into Vulnerable damage or similar Rogue mechanics. Windforce isn’t the only strong option for Barrage builds at the very highest end of optimization, since some endgame setups lean toward weapons that boost a second skill alongside Barrage for more single-target damage. But for a Barrage-focused Rogue that wants one weapon doing as much of the heavy lifting as possible, Windforce remains a strong, straightforward choice.
