Understanding Diablo 4 Torment Tiers
Torment is Diablo 4’s endgame difficulty ladder — 12 sequential tiers that sit above the base difficulty levels and represent the true character progression ceiling of the game. Each Torment tier increases monster power substantially and rewards players with higher experience multipliers, better loot quality, and access to crafting materials that either do not drop at all or drop at dramatically lower rates below Torment. The jump from base difficulty to Torment I is the first major progression gate every endgame character faces — and each subsequent tier represents a meaningful step up in both the challenge and the reward.
The 12 tiers are not intended as equal steps. The lower tiers — Torment I through IV — are the accessible endgame range that well-geared characters progress through relatively quickly and where the majority of the playerbase farms efficiently. The mid-tiers — Torment V through VIII — represent the primary long-term farming range for optimised builds and are where most endgame activities feel most balanced between challenge and reward yield. The upper tiers — Torment IX through XII — are aspirational content designed for fully optimised characters pushing the ceiling of their builds, with Torment XII carrying a 1400% experience bonus and representing the pinnacle of loot quality in the game.
Torment tiers are unlocked through Artificer’s Pit tier completions at the Artificer’s Obelisk in Temis. Each Torment tier requires reaching a specific Pit tier threshold — approximately 10 Pit tiers per Torment step — meaning clearing Pit Tier 10 unlocks Torment I, Tier 20 unlocks Torment III, Tier 40 unlocks Torment VI, and so on through the ladder. The higher tiers additionally require specific Paragon Glyph rank milestones alongside the Pit tier threshold, making Artificer’s Tower and Pit progression the twin pillars of endgame character advancement.
Unlocking higher Torment tiers also directly gates progression through Season Rank Capstone requirements — specific Torment tiers are mandatory checkpoints for advancing through the Season Rank ladder and accessing its cosmetic and crafting material rewards. This means Torment progression is not optional for players who want to complete the full Season Rank track — it is the primary mechanism through which Season Rank advancement is earned from the mid-tiers onward.
Loot quality scales with Torment tier throughout. Ancestral items begin dropping at Torment I, but the quality of affix rolls and the rate of Greater Affix appearances on those items scale upward as Torment tier increases. Rare crafting materials including Scrolls of Restoration, Temper Manuals, Neathiron, Primordial Dust, and Mythic Seals all appear more frequently at higher Torment tiers — making each tier unlock a meaningful improvement to the character’s long-term crafting and itemisation efficiency rather than simply a prestige milestone.
Why Buy the Torment Tier Unlock Boost
Unlocking each Torment tier requires completing specific Artificer’s Pit tier thresholds that demand a well-optimised build and sufficient gear investment to clear within the time limit. For characters that hit a wall at a specific Pit tier — whether through build limitations, suboptimal gear rolls, or simply not having pushed Pit content enough to develop the required experience — clearing the required threshold to unlock the next Torment tier can be a significant time investment. Our boost completes the required Artificer’s Pit tiers cleanly and efficiently, unlocking your target Torment tier and giving you immediate access to the higher loot quality, experience multipliers, and Season Rank progression that come with it.
