Idol of Greust is a Unique Augment in Path of Exile 2 — an Idol that sockets into an Augment Socket in a weapon or armour to permanently apply one of three effects depending on the item type it is socketed into. Socketed into a Shield it causes 25% of Armour to also apply to Elemental Damage with a Bonded bonus of 12% increased Damage for each type of Elemental Ailment on the enemy. Socketed into a Buckler it grants Deflection Rating equal to 20% of Evasion Rating with the same Bonded ailment damage bonus. Socketed into a Sceptre it causes Companions to deal 10% more Damage for each different type of dead Companion currently present, with a Bonded bonus of 3% Life recovery whenever a Minion is Revived. Idols are consumed on socketing — once placed they cannot be retrieved, only replaced by a different Augment — making each application a permanent commitment to the item it is socketed into. Idol of Greust is one of Path of Exile 2’s Idol Augments — a category of consumable unique items that permanently modify a weapon or armour piece by socketing into its Augment Socket. Unlike standard runes which are common crafting components, Idols are unique-rarity Augments with specific conditional effects tied to the item type they are socketed into, making the choice of which item to socket them into a meaningful build decision rather than a straightforward socket-and-forget upgrade.
The three-way conditional effect structure is what makes Idol of Greust broadly applicable across different build archetypes. The Shield version converts a portion of the character’s existing Armour investment into Elemental Damage reduction — directly relevant for Warrior and Titan builds that stack Armour primarily for Physical mitigation but face significant Elemental damage in endgame content. The Buckler version scales Deflection from Evasion — a multiplicative benefit for Ranger and Mercenary builds that already invest heavily into Evasion Rating, since every point of Evasion now simultaneously contributes to Deflection without additional gear investment. The Sceptre version introduces a Companion death synergy — specifically for builds that deliberately cycle Companion deaths and revivals as a damage mechanic, where dead Companion diversity at any given moment compounds into a substantial more damage multiplier across the surviving Companions.
