Idol of the Martyr is a Unique Augment in Path of Exile 2 built around resource trade-offs that exchange one system’s capacity for another’s potency. Socketed into a Martial Weapon, Wand, or Staff it imposes 25% reduced Spirit while granting Meta Skills 40% increased Energy — sacrificing the Spirit pool that funds persistent skills in exchange for substantially more Energy available to Meta Skill activations. Socketed into a Sceptre it reduces Presence Area of Effect by 40% while giving Aura Skills 25% increased Magnitudes — shrinking the spatial coverage of every Presence-based effect in exchange for more potent buffs and debuffs within that smaller area. The Bonded modifier adds a further layer to each application: Martial Weapon, Wand, and Staff gains Invocated skills with 25% increased Maximum Energy alongside 25% reduced Meta Skill Reservation Efficiency — extending the Energy ceiling for Invocated skills while reducing the efficiency of how Meta Skills consume their resource pool. Sceptre gains Allies in Presence regenerating 3% of the player’s Maximum Life per second alongside 25% reduced Life Regeneration rate — providing strong ally sustain at the cost of personal regeneration speed. As with all Idols, socketing is permanent and cannot be undone, only replaced. Limited to 1 per character and requires Level 50. Idol of the Martyr’s name frames its design philosophy precisely — a martyr sacrifices something of personal value for a greater purpose. Every application of this Idol takes something away to give something stronger in return, and the trade is never symmetrical in favour of pure gain. Spirit is reduced to make Meta Skills more powerful. Presence Area shrinks to make Aura effects more potent within it. Regeneration rate slows to sustain Allies more effectively. In each case the Idol demands a sacrifice from the character to empower a specific system beyond what gear investment alone can achieve.
The Martial Weapon application is designed for Meta Gem builds that use Invocated skills and need Energy scaling above what Spirit investment can provide. Meta Skills in Path of Exile 2 use Energy as their activation resource rather than Spirit — the 40% increased Energy from the Idol directly amplifies how many Meta Skill activations are available per cycle, allowing more frequent use of powerful triggered effects at the cost of Spirit capacity that would otherwise fund persistent aura or minion skills. The Bonded 25% increased Maximum Energy for Invocated skills raises the ceiling further while the 25% reduced Reservation Efficiency is the counterweight — Meta Skills cost more of their resource pool per activation, requiring either faster Energy generation or more selective usage to compensate.
The Sceptre application serves a concentrated support role — shrinking Presence Area is a meaningful trade for builds that operate in close proximity to allies anyway, where the full Presence radius is rarely filled with party members simultaneously. Trading unused Presence coverage for 25% increased Aura Skill Magnitudes within the tighter area makes every buff and debuff the Aura applies stronger for the players who are within range, which in coordinated group content where positioning is deliberate is a net gain rather than a net loss. The Bonded ally regeneration off the player’s Maximum Life is the sustain tool that keeps nearby party members healthy through the support character’s stats rather than their own regeneration investment.
