Idol of the Pharisee is a Unique Augment in Path of Exile 2 that converts resource scarcity into power in two distinct ways depending on socket type. Socketed into a Martial Weapon, Wand, or Staff it reduces maximum Mana by 30% while granting 2% of Damage as Extra Physical Damage for every ten percent of Mana that is missing — rewarding builds that deliberately run low on Mana with a scaling Physical Damage bonus that grows as the Mana pool depletes. Socketed into a Sceptre it reduces Mana Cost Efficiency of Command Skills by 30% while giving Minions 60% increased Damage with Command Skills — making Command Skill activations more expensive while dramatically amplifying their output. The Bonded modifier adds a secondary dimension to each: Martial Weapon, Wand, and Staff gains 30% reduced Mana Cost Efficiency alongside 12% increased Skill Speed while on Low Mana — applying further Mana pressure in exchange for a speed bonus that fires during the very low-Mana state the Idol encourages. Sceptre gains 25% reduced Reservation Efficiency of Minion Skills alongside +2 to the Limit of Temporary Minion skills — making persistent minion upkeep more expensive while allowing more temporary summons to exist simultaneously. As with all Idols, socketing is permanent and cannot be undone, only replaced. Limited to 1 per character and requires Level 50. Idol of the Pharisee builds on the same trade-off philosophy as Idol of the Martyr but applies it specifically to Mana — using deliberate resource depletion as a damage and speed scaling mechanism. The Martial Weapon application creates a Low Mana build archetype where intentionally spending Mana below recovery rate is rewarded with escalating Physical Damage conversion. At 30% reduced maximum Mana and the base extra Physical Damage scaling per 10% missing, a build that consistently operates at 50% Mana missing gains 10% of Damage as extra Physical from the missing portion alone — with further scaling available as Mana depletes deeper toward the Low Mana threshold.
The Low Mana Skill Speed bonus in the Bonded version compounds with this deliberately depleted Mana state. Low Mana in Path of Exile 2 is typically a condition to be avoided — it signals resource exhaustion and skill unavailability. Idol of the Pharisee inverts this by attaching a speed bonus to the Low Mana threshold alongside the already-active Physical Damage scaling, creating a build state where the character attacks faster and deals more Physical Damage simultaneously precisely when Mana is at its lowest. Builds with strong Mana recovery that can dip below the Low Mana threshold and recover quickly gain more out of this interaction than builds that hover near empty without recovering.
The Sceptre application is a Command Skill damage amplifier that specifically rewards investing Mana into Minion commands rather than passive Spirit reservation. Command Skills — the active abilities that direct Minion attacks and behaviours — benefit from the 60% increased Damage multiplier while costing more Mana per activation due to the reduced Efficiency. For Companion and Minion builds with large Mana pools that can absorb higher Command costs, the 60% damage increase represents a significant and consistent multiplier on the most impactful moments of Minion damage output. The Bonded +2 to Temporary Minion Limit is the secondary benefit that makes the Sceptre version attractive for burst summon builds — being able to have 2 more temporary summons active simultaneously expands AoE coverage and total burst damage potential without requiring additional Spirit for persistent minion maintenance.
