About the Path of Exile 2 Idol of Sycophant Service
The Idol of the Sycophant is a corrupted Idol in Path of Exile 2, part of the Ritual drop pool alongside the Idol of the Pharisee and Idol of the Martyr. Its design is the most straightforward of the three corrupted Idols — both slot effects follow the same pattern of sacrificing resistance totals in exchange for bonus damage conversion, with no resource mechanics or conditional scaling involved.
The weapon version is a pure damage tradeoff. The -20% to all Elemental Resistances is a flat penalty to Fire, Cold, and Lightning resistance simultaneously, which at overcapped resistances may be absorbed without reaching dangerous thresholds but at or near cap can leave the character meaningfully more vulnerable to Elemental damage in endgame content. The 20% of Damage as Extra random Elemental Damage is a universally applicable bonus — it scales off all damage dealt regardless of damage type, adding 20% of that total as a randomly chosen Element on top of each hit. For builds that deal large hits infrequently, the random element is largely irrelevant; for builds that hit many times per second, the random element averages out across the Elemental types over time.
The Sceptre version shifts the tradeoff entirely onto Companions rather than the character. Companions take the -20% Elemental Resistance penalty, increasing their vulnerability to Elemental damage sources in endgame encounters, while gaining 20% of their damage as Extra random Elemental Damage in return. For Companion builds that want to maximise Companion DPS and can sustain Companion survivability through passive tree investment or Companion Life bonuses, this is a direct damage multiplier applied to every Companion in Presence simultaneously.
The Bonded effects extend the tradeoff into Chaos for both slots, adding -20% Chaos Resistance alongside 20% of Damage as Extra Chaos Damage for the weapon, and granting all Allies in Presence the same Chaos damage bonus while applying the Chaos Resistance penalty to Companions specifically in the Sceptre version. For Shaman Ascendancy Druids stacking both weapon and Bonded effects, the combined penalty is significant and requires careful resistance management across all damage types.
