Split Personality is a unique corrupted Ruby Jewel that drops exclusively from Tangmazu, the Raven Trickster, and is one of the most build-defining items in the current Runes of Aldur league. When socketed into an allocated Jewel Socket on the Passive Skill Tree, it allows you to allocate passive skills starting from a second class’s starting point — meaning a Warrior can path from the Sorceress starting position, a Ranger can access Templar passives, and so on. Since the jewel is limited to one per character and is always corrupted, it cannot be crafted or chanced and must be obtained as a drop directly from Tangmazu.
The mechanic goes further than simply adding extra reach on the passive tree. Once you connect your original class tree into a continuous cluster through the new starting point, you can actually unallocate the passives from your original class’s starting position entirely, effectively relocating where your tree begins. Split Personality Mechanics Explained
The passive skill tree in Path of Exile 2 is structured around class starting points — nodes clustered together near where each class begins, designed to give that class efficient access to the passives most relevant to its playstyle. Reaching the starting point of a different class normally requires pathing across large sections of the tree, spending many passive points just to get there and often picking up undesirable nodes along the way. Split Personality removes that constraint entirely. By placing it in a Jewel Socket near another class’s starting cluster, you gain the ability to allocate passives directly from that starting point as though your character began there, with no points wasted on the path between the two positions.
The limit of one per character keeps this mechanic from being stackable across every class simultaneously, meaning the choice of which starting point to access has genuine strategic weight. A build that gains access to the Warrior’s Melee Damage cluster starting passives from a jewel socket near that section of the tree might completely change which weapon-type nodes are worth investing in. A Sorceress accessing the Ranger’s starting position could reach bow-adjacent evasion and speed nodes at a fraction of the cost it would normally require. Every combination opens different possibilities depending on where the jewel socket is placed and what passives sit near the chosen class starting point.
The additional mechanic — being able to unallocate your own class’s starting passives once the tree connects into a continuous cluster — adds a further layer of flexibility. It means the jewel doesn’t just add reach, it can fundamentally relocate which section of the tree you’re building out from, provided you’ve connected the two sides into a single unbroken allocation path first.
