Vruun’s Aftermath is an endgame-exclusive Lineage Support Gem in Path of Exile 2 that connects Warcry mechanics directly to the Ice Crystal and Ice Fragment system. Vruun’s Aftermath sits at the intersection of two systems that have historically been somewhat separate in Path of Exile 2 — Warcry empowerment mechanics and the Ice Crystal/Ice Fragment terrain system. Warcries in their standard form empower a set number of subsequent Attacks based on the exerted enemy count and any skill or gem modifiers — the empowered Attacks deal more damage or gain additional effects depending on the specific Warcry used. Vruun’s Aftermath extends this by adding a conditional bonus: destroy at least 5 ice structures with the Warcry and 3 more Attacks are empowered on top of the base count.
The dual detonation effect — causing Ice Crystals to explode and detonating Ice Fragments simultaneously — means a single supported Warcry cast clears every ice structure in the area at once rather than requiring the player to trigger them separately. This is both a quality of life improvement for builds that generate many ice structures across a fight and a damage event in its own right, since Ice Crystal explosions and Ice Fragment detonations deal Cold damage to enemies in their radius. The Warcry effectively becomes a mass detonation trigger that combines an area Cold damage burst with the empowerment generation for the subsequent Attack sequence in one cast.
The 5-structure threshold for the additional empowerment is the design constraint that makes Vruun’s Aftermath particularly synergistic with high-frequency ice structure generation. Skills introduced in patch 0.3.0 — Escape Shot, Ice-Tipped Arrows, and Freezing Salvo — generate Ice Fragments as part of their normal attack cycle. Glacial Lance and other Cold skills create Ice Crystals through their mechanics. A build that generates 5 or more structures between Warcry uses has consistent access to the 3 additional empowered Attacks on every Warcry cast — making ice structure generation investment compound directly into Warcry empowerment output throughout the full fight rotation.
