WotLK Classic: Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane’s Fall Guide

Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane's Fall

INTRODUCTION

Hello everyone and welcome to our Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane’s Fall blog post! Here we will do our best to cover everything that is known about each of them and what you have to do, as well as which Rewards you can obtain.

With WotLK Classic being dangerously close to its end, Blizzard is doing everything it can to make sure that Players have something to work with, even though the content and the imagination behind it is kind of ‘stolen’ from the current Season of Discovery Raid and the theme there, it still has its perks.

Before we go into what these events offer, how you can access them, and what you can gain, feel free to check out our Season of Discovery Season 3 post, as well as read about Cataclysm Classic Release Date post if you are interested in what is to come!

Without further ado, let us dive right into the post!

What are Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane’s Fall?

Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane’s Fall are newly added Events in WotLK Classic. Alongside bringing the new Events, Blizzard also added some changes to the Game considering WotLK Classic is close to an end.

Let’s check those out and then we’ll go into what Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane’s Fall are about!

Changes coming to WotLK Classic

To celebrate the launch of Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane’s Fall, along with the imminent arrival of Cataclysm Classic, Blizzard introduced some temporary enhancements to dungeon drops and token acquisition rates in Icecrown Citadel and Ulduar. Here’s what you can expect:

  • All bosses in Defense Protocol: Gamma dungeons now drop 2 Defiler’s Scourgestones, up from 1.
  • In Icecrown Citadel 25-player Normal and Heroic modes:
    1. All bosses now guarantee to drop 1 Shadowfrost Shard.
    2. End wing bosses and The Lich King will drop 2 guaranteed Shadowfrost Shards, up from 1.
    3. End wing bosses in Heroic mode will also drop one additional Heroic tier token.
    4. The Lich King in Heroic mode will drop 2 additional Heroic tier tokens.
  • Hard Mode” encounters in the 25-player version of Ulduar will now guarantee to drop 1 Fragment of Val’anyr. Please note that Algalon and “Zero Light” Yogg-Saron remain unchanged in their Fragment drops.

Important Note: These adjustments will come into effect during each region’s regular maintenance starting the week of March 26 and will continue until the end of the Cataclysm Classic pre-patch period.

What are these Events about?

Operation Gnomeregan and Zalazane’s Fall are about the uprising of gnomes and trolls as they work to reclaim their homelands. Alliance players will heed the call of High Tinker Mekkatorque in Operation Gnomeregan and members of the Horde will be called to Vol’jin’s side as he set his sights on Zalazane and the Echo Isles.

Great Rewards await you if you join the cause of either Gnomes or Trolls depending on your faction and help them reclaim their homeland.

Let’s see what you can expect from both of these Events! Starting with the Gnomes.

Operation Gnomeregan Guide – WotLK Classic

Operation Gnomeregan is an exciting event where Alliance characters band together to reclaim Gnomeregan for the gnomes. Join in the historic battle to restore this legendary city, and enjoy boosted dungeon loot, more Heroic Tier and Shadowfrost Shard drops in Icecrown Citadel, and increased Fragment of Val’anyr drops in Ulduar!

By participating in this event, all players receive the Gnomeregan Pride toy, regardless of their level. Additionally, players who are level 75 or higher have the opportunity to earn the cosmetic Gnomeregan Drape, which can be transmogrified in Cataclysm Classic, along with the prestigious Feat of Strength achievement Operation: Gnomeregan.

When does Operation Gnomeregan Start and End?

This Event started on the 26th of March and will last until the start of the Cataclysm Classic expansion. Operation Gnomeregan was first launched on September 7, 2010, and ran until the launch of the original Cataclysm. The event created a permanent change in the landscape of Dun Morogh. In Cataclysm, New Tinkertown (Chill Breeze Valley) became the Gnome starting area instead of Coldridge Valley.

Operation Gnomeregan Quests – For All Levels

All Alliance players can undertake the majority of the quests listed here, regardless of their level. However, to complete the final two quests, players must be level 75 or higher.

The adventure commences with a missive from High Tinker Mekkatorque:

The Missive

Good Sir/Madame,

As a proud member of the Alliance, duty compels you to journey to Ironforge with haste and submit yourself to the will of High Tinker Mekkatorque, King of Gnomes.

**The end of our exile draws nigh – Operation: Gnomeregan is about to begin!**

* Lawyerbot 2000 informs me that I actually possess no legal authority whatsoever – over gnomes or otherwise – but still, you have to admit that sounded impressive!
** Seriously, please come help out if you can. Many thanks!

A Few Good Gnomes

To begin the quest “A Few Good Gnomes,” head to Tinker Town in Ironforge and speak with High Tinker Mekkatorque. He’ll inform you that while the gnomes are assembling their battle machines, they’re short on pilots. Mekkatorque will provide you with a Motivate-a-Tron device to help recruit gnome citizens for the cause. Your task is to lead these citizens to Steelgrill’s Depot to meet up with Captain Tread Sparknozzle.

You’ll find Gnome Citizens scattered around Ironforge. If a citizen is labeled as “Motivated,” it means they’ve already been recruited by another player. Select a Gnome Citizen and use the Motivate-a-Tron on them to enlist them in your group. Once you’ve motivated 5 citizens, head to Steelgrill Depot north of Kharanos. You can travel there mounted without losing your Motivated Citizens. Upon arrival, seek out Captain Tread Sparknozzle, who will automatically receive your Motivated Citizens. Finally, turn in the quest to Captain Tread Sparknozzle, who may not seem impressed but will accept any help he can get.

Basic Orders

To continue with the quest, head to Drill Sergeant Steamcrank and comply with his instructions. You’ll locate his training camp near the road, where he’s instructing other new recruits. Target Drill Sergeant Steamcrank and perform the emotes in response to his commands – use /dance, /salute, /roar, and /cheer. Once you’ve completed the emotes, return to Captain Tread Sparknozzle to report your progress.

In and Out

Captain Tread Sparknozzle‘s next directive is to assess the ejection system in the Scuttling Mechano-Tank to ensure a safe exit (“safe” being a questionable term in the realm of Gnomish technology). Nearby, you’ll find several Scuttling Mechano-Tanks that can be activated. Enter one of these tanks and utilize the vehicle’s designated button to eject yourself from the tank. Afterward, return to Captain Tread Sparknozzle to inform him of any malfunctions or issues encountered during the test.

One Step Forward

Now that you’re aware of your ability to exit in case of an emergency, Captain Tread Sparknozzle advises testing the maneuverability and leg servo functions of the Scuttling Mechano-Tank . Enter the tank once more, and you’ll be presented with a set of vehicle commands. Click the buttons labeled “Left Leg” and “Right Leg” three times each, noting any discrepancies or issues. Confirm that the “Left Leg” is not functioning correctly. Additionally, test the “Evasive Maneuvers” button by clicking it three times. After completing the tests, eject from the tank and report your observations to Captain Tread Sparknozzle.

Press Fire

Next, you’ll need to assess the Shooting Mechano-Tank. Captain Tread Sparknozzle requires you to evaluate its firing capabilities by engaging nearby targets. Enter the Shooting Mechano-Tank and observe the targets in close proximity. Utilize the vehicle’s buttons to fire at the targets and test the Weapon System. Ensure you’re within adequate range for effective targeting.

Upon successfully hitting three targets, eject from the tank and inform Captain Tread Sparknozzle of your progress.

Vent Horizon

You have the option to begin this quest earlier. You’ll be tasked with using Pilot Muzzlesprock‘s flying machine, the ‘Thunderflash,’ to deploy Radiageigatrons into the ventilation shafts of Gnomeregan. These devices monitor radiation levels to assess safety within the area. Board the helicopter and journey to Gnomeregan.

Identify the correct vents by the prominent green steam plumes emanating from them, along with helpful arrows indicating the target locations. Toss three Radiageigatrons into three distinct vents, completing your mission. Fortunately, multiple individuals can contribute to deploying Radiageigatrons into the same vent.

Upon your return, Pilot Muzzlesprock confirms that the radiation levels are sufficiently low to proceed with the operation.

Prepping the Speech

Find Toby Zeigear <Speechwriter> nearby. He’s been crafting a speech for High Tinker Mekkatorque but is uncertain about which drafts to use.

He provides you with the Gnomish Playback Device to present three versions of his speech to test audiences. Your task is to place the Gnomish Playback Device in front of three audience members and gather their feedback. Each version elicits different responses—one may be weak, another confusing, and the third requires further refinement.

Here are the designated audience members:

  1. Milli Featherwhistle – Located at Steelgrill Depot, coordinates (49.2, 48.0).
  2. Ozzie Togglevolt – Found in the basement of the Inn in Kharanos, coordinates (45.8, 49.2).
  3. Tog Rustsprocket – Situated south of Kharanos, coordinates (47.2, 53.6).

Once you’ve gathered feedback from all three, return to Toby Zeigear <Speechwriter> to discuss the results.

Words for Delivery Part 1

With the feedback gathered from the audience, Toby Zeigear polished the speech. He entrusts you with delivering it to Captain Tread Sparknozzle. Completing this task will reward you with the Gnomeregan Pride toy, which allows you to transform into a member of the Gnomeregan Infantry for 30 minutes.

For those under level 75, this marks the conclusion of your role in Operation: Gnomeregan. You can opt to join the Gnomeregan Reserves, but your participation in the battle comes to an end. However, if you attain level 75 before the event concludes, you can return to pick up the subsequent quest and continue your involvement.

Operation Gnomeregan Quests – For Levels 75+

If you are above 75, or if you get Level 75 during the Event, then you can continue with the chain.

Words for Delivery Part 2

The second part of the Words for Delivery quest is only for players 75+. Captain Tread Sparknozzle approves the speech and orders you to fly with him on the ‘Thunderflash’ to deliver the speech to High Tinker Mekkatorque on the battlefield.

The Final Quest Operation: Gnomeregan

After delivering the speech script and accepting the quest, High Tinker Mekkatorque initiates the start of Operation: Gnomeregan, though there might be a slight delay. The event lasts for 20 minutes. If High Tinker Mekkatorque is not immediately present upon arrival, wait at the landing spot for his arrival. Once the event begins, other players have 6 minutes to join before High Tinker Mekkatorque commences the attack. Missing this window may necessitate waiting for up to 15 minutes for the next round to begin.

It’s crucial to stay close to High Tinker Mekkatorque during the event to prevent any bugs that might require restarting the event, which can be frustrating for all involved.

The event features level 80 Elites but is aided by the buff Brilliant Tactics, providing a significant boost to health and damage, and Surgeon General’s Warding, offering health and resource recovery.

The first objective is to clear the airfield, neutralize the four rocket launchers guarded by irradiated infantry, and regain control of the air towers to enable aerial support. Once this stage is completed, the ground base must be conquered, additional rockets destroyed, and access to the tunnels secured.

Upon entering Gnomeregan, you’ll face Mekgineer Thermaplugg’s Brag-Bot and encounter waves of Irradiated Trogg troops led by the elite Trogg Gasherikk. Subsequently, High Tinker Mekkatorque leads the army through Gnomeregan, navigating a malfunctioning elevator by deploying parachutes.

Further inside, you’ll confront the Irradiator 3000, a large construct blocking the way, followed by Mekgineer Thermaplugg’s final forces, led by Commander Boltcog.

After overcoming these obstacles, Mekgineer Thermaplugg attempts to activate the Irradiator 3000, only to find it has a default timer of 10 minutes. As High Tinker Mekkatorque endeavors to defuse it, Mekgineer Thermaplugg resets the timer to 10 seconds. Fortunately, High Tinker Mekkatorque orders Jhordy Lapforge to teleport everyone to safety in Tinker Town.

Upon successful completion, you’ll be rewarded with the Gnomeregan Drape and earn the Feat of Strength achievement Operation: Gnomeregan.

Zalazane's Fall GuideZalazane’s Fall Guide – WotLK Classic

Zalazane’s Fall is an event tailored for Horde characters, aimed at reclaiming the Echo Isles from Zalazane. Beyond the historic victory of reclaiming the islands, participants will also benefit from increased dungeon loot, additional Heroic Tier and Shadowfrost Shard drops in Icecrown Citadel, and Fragment of Val’anyr drops in Ulduar!

Upon completion of this event, all participants receive the Darkspear Pride toy, regardless of their level. Players at level 75 or higher can obtain the cosmetic Darkspear Shroud, which will be transmoggable in Cataclysm Classic, along with earning the Feat of Strength achievement Zalazane’s Fall.

When does Zalazane’s Fall Start and End?

This Event started on the 26th of March and will last until the start of the Cataclysm Classic expansion. Zalazane’s Fall was first launched on September 7, 2010, and ran until the launch of the original Cataclysm. The event created a permanent change in the landscape of Durotar. In Cataclysm, The Echo Isles became the Troll starting area.

Zalazane’s Fall Quests – For All Levels

Speak to Vol’jin, he will make you aware of his plans to retake the Echo Isles for the trolls. You’re sent to Sen’jin Village to start the process.

Da Perfect Spies

To begin the quest, seek out Vanira in Sen’jin Village. She will task you with capturing 5 Sen’jin Frogs and attuning them to her sight using her Sentry Totem nearby.

Head to Darkspear Strand, where the Sen’jin Frogs hide beneath the palms. Capture them one by one and bring them to Vanira’s Sentry Totem. Once all 5 frogs are attuned, report back to Vanira to complete the quest.

Frogs Away!

Once you’ve attuned the frogs to the sentry totem, Vanira instructs you to toss the bags of frogs into the white smoke signals on the Echo Isles, which the spirits have summoned for guidance. Seek out Handler Marnlek east of Sen’jin Village, or south if you’re coming directly from Vanira, and request a bat ride.

During the flight, toss the frogs at the white smoke plumes on the ground. Once you’ve completed this task, return to Vanira to report your progress.

Trollin’ For Volunteers

After that, speak with Champion Uru’zin, who tasks you with recruiting willing residents of Razor Hill for the upcoming battle using Vol’jin’s War Drums. Utilize the taxi service offered by Handler Marnlek to travel directly to Razor Hill.

Upon reaching Razor Hill, use Vol’jin’s War Drums to rally Troll Citizens, persuading them to join as Troll Volunteers. Once you’ve gathered 5 volunteers, make your way back to Sen’jin Village on foot. Report your success to Champion Uru’zin upon your return.

Lady of Da Tigers

Once you’re done recruiting – Vanira has another task for you. She requests that you investigate an intelligent tiger spotted by her frogs and attempt to persuade her to assist in the battle against Zalazane. After being transformed into a shadowy walking panther, head to any of the smaller aisles and search for her.

Shortly, the tiger matriarch will appear. Defeat her, and she will reveal herself as a troll druid named Zen’tabra. She pledges her support to the Darkspear tribe and instructs you to inform Vol’jin of her decision. Make your way to Vol’jin and report Zen’tabra’s assistance.

Dance of Da Spirits

Vol’jin expresses joy upon hearing the news and commends your efforts. He then directs you to Witch Doctor Hez’tok, who will invoke the spirits to determine the most auspicious time to initiate the conquest. When you are prepared, approach Witch Doctor Hez’tok and he will commence the ritual.

As Witch Doctor Hez’tok consumes the potion, Darkspear Ancestors materialize, and the Voice of the Spirits possesses his body, announcing the spirits’ endorsement of the Darkspears’ plan. After their departure, Witch Doctor Hez’tok reverts to his original form, assured of the Darkspears’ success in reclaiming the Echo Isles. Report back to Vol’jin and receive the Darkspear Pride, a token that transforms you into a Darkspear Warrior for 30 minutes.

If you have not reached level 75 or higher, your adventure ends here. You can resume this quest line once you attain the required level.

Zalazane’s Fall Quests – For Levels 75+

If you are above 75, or if you get Level 75 while the Event is active, then you can continue with the chain.

Prepin’ for Battle

Prepare for battle! Seek out Handler Marnlek to arrange transportation to the staging area at the Echo Isles. Once there, rendezvous with Vol’jin on the island located east of the war camp, approximately at coordinates (64.4, 71.1).

Note: If  Vol’jin is not present upon your arrival, remain in the vicinity until he arrives. Once he appears, complete your current quest by turning it in and then accept the next one, Zalazane’s Fall.

The Final Quest: Zalazane’s Fall

Upon accepting the quest, Vol’jin initiates the commencement of the operation, but not immediately. The event spans 20 minutes. If Vol’jin is not present upon your arrival, remain at the designated landing spot until he comes. Once a player initiates the event, there is a 6-minute window for other players to join before Vol’jin commences the attack. Should you miss this window, you may need to wait up to 15 minutes for the start of a new round.

Just before the event begins, all participants affirm their allegiance to the Darkspear, bolstering themselves with various buffs. With the esteemed company of Zen’tabra, Vanira, and Vol’jin himself, the party sets out to seek the aid of the legendary Loa Bwonsamdi. He subjects them to a test of worthiness, promising assistance upon the conquest of the lost village to the south.

After battling through hordes of adversaries, the village is eventually cleared, and the party confronts the miniboss, Jun’do the Traitor. Bwonsamdi appears, expressing approval of Vol’jin’s leadership.

Vol’jin signals the advance to the next troll camp, where they engage Zalazane in a fierce confrontation. Despite his persistence, Zalazane eventually retreats to a different island, prompting the party to pursue. However, upon reaching Zalazane’s location, they find him shielded by an impenetrable violet sphere. Frustrated, the warriors attempt to breach the barrier to no avail. Suddenly, Bwonsamdi intervenes, slaying Zalazane in retribution for his unjust claim on Bwonsamdi’s territory. After expressing gratitude to Bwonsamdi, the loa transports the Darkspear army away from the Echo Isles.

Upon the conclusion of this quest event, participants are rewarded with the Darkspear Shroud and the Feat of Strength Zalazane’s Fall.
