Season of Discovery is all about getting Runes in order to build up, increase the capability, ability and power of your Character, it’s like that for every Class and this includes the Paladin and Paladin Runes. By knowing where, how and why you should obtain these Runes, you will be one step closer in realizing your full potential on a Class.

However, when it comes to specific Paladin Runes, keep on reading!

What are Runes or Rune Engravings in Season of Discovery?

In WoW Classic’s Season of Discovery, Runes serve as items that are slotted into gear, granting passive effects or unlocking new spells or abilities for the character. They are exclusive to this particular season and are not available in other iterations of the game. Blizzard has implemented the rune system as a means to explore new class fantasies and to address balancing issues by empowering weaker specs. Furthermore, some runes offer effects that enable classes to fulfill entirely new roles, expanding gameplay possibilities. For instance, a Warlocks and Rogue can become a Tank, Mages can be Healers etc.

Each rune is designed for a specific gear slot. Phase 1 of the Season of Discovery introduced runes for the Chest, Hands, and Legs slots. Phase 2 expands upon this by introducing runes for the Waist and Feet slots. Additional runes for other equipment slots are slated to be introduced in subsequent phases of the season.

Note: The notable features of runes is their flexibility. They can be swapped out at any time, provided your character is not in combat. You can expect to receive your first rune through a Quest from your Class trainer at level 2. As the Season of Discovery progresses through further phases, additional runes will be introduced, that will change the gameplay experience and providing everyone with more options for customization and specialization.

Why are Runes important to a Paladin?

Paladin Runes are important in SoD because of the effect that they have on the Class overall. Even though the Paladin doesn’t have any Insanely Class-changing Runes, he was still far behind of others in terms of what the Class was capable of and what it was ‘meant’ to do in Classic WoW. However, with certain Runes that became available in Season of Discovery, the Paladin gameplay can change drastically and be more competitive compared to other Classes in the game. Which usually wasn’t the case. Being a DPS Paladin was always sort of a ‘meme’, but with the new Runes you are on top from the get-go.

Lets see which Paladin Runes can help you pop-off and how early you can do it!

How to get the Seal of Martyrdom Rune for Paladin in SoD Phase 2

There is only one place to get the Rune of Martyrdom. It is located in Duskwood. Here are the steps:

  • First off, you will have to go to Stormwind City.
  • Once there, you will go to the Cathedral and speak to Brother Romulus.
  • Next to Romulus(on his left when facing him), you will find a stairwell that leads to the Catacombs beneath the Cathedral.
  • Follow the stairs down and you will reach a Large room.
  • Within this room you should turn left as you come down and you will see a hole in the wall with some candles and a  Charred Note.
  • The note will lead you to a small Island located in the far North-West of Duskwood at (4, 28). This Island is basically in the tri-zone area of Westfall, Duskwood and Elwyn Forest but it falls under Duskwood on the map. Alternatively, you will find it if you just go South-West from where Hogger is.
  • Once you’re there, you will find Ada Gelhardt.
  • Speak with her and defeat her.

Once you’ve done that, you will get the Rune of Martyrdom, which will allow you to Engrave Chest – Seal of Martyrdom.

Note 1: Do your best to have bagspace because once she’s defeated you will get the Rune directly in the inventory. If by chance you don’t have space, the Rune will not be sent to your mailbox and there is no other way of getting it other than contacting Blizzard.

Note 2: If by chance you are not seeing Ada on the spot where she should be, this might mean that someone kited her away from the spot and into another Zone, town or place. Unfortunately enough there was an issue revolving this NPC considering she is unable to die, and then if Players kite her to a town with Guards she will keep fighting them forever. Many used this technique to get their Weapon Skill up. There is no confirmation that the bug was fixed, but hopefully it is by the time you read this.

The only thing to do in this situation is to change layers, or try to ask in global chats to see if someone has her location. This is usually done by Horde players to grief Alliance Paladins, or simply for the meme.

How to get Divine Storm as a Paladin in SoD Phase 2

One of the harder Paladin Runes to get in Season of Discovery is definitely one of the best and it’s Divine Storm. Unlike others, you don’t get a Rune that you have to ‘learn’, you simply obtain it by completing a series of challenges. There’s a long list of things, so lets get started with what you have to do:

Note: We will focus on how you can obtain this Rune on your own, but generally it is suggested that you bring a friend or two to help you out preferably considering this Rune requires you to defeat Elites and you want to get it as early on as possible!

  • First of all you will have to go to the Tower of Althalaxx that is located in the Northern part of Darkshore.
  •  Atop the tower there is an Orb that you have to get which will send you on your journey to learn Divine Storm.

Note: In order to get this Orb you have to fight with Level 30+ mobs in the Tower. This is a difficult task to perform alone, but with some help it should be easy. Alternatively if you have to do it yourself, this is the best way to go about it would be with the Engineering Profession:

  1. Climb the Tower as far as you can. If you die, Release Spirit and run to your corpse.
  2. Once you are at your Corpse you should revive and if you feel that you’re close to the top, just pull all the mobs to you and jump off while using Divine Protection.
  3. When the mobs get to you at the Towers base, drop an Advanced Target Dummy and start running up, preferably with a Swiftness Potion.

This should buy you enough time to get the Althalaxx Orb. If you have another Paladin with you, you can simply let him get the mobs to follow him while jumping off the tower, and then you get the Orb and reverse roles afterwards so they can claim it as well.

  • After obtaining the Orb, you will go to Ashenvale and find Delgren the Purifier he is located at (26, 39).
  • By talking to Delgren, he will examine the Orb and it will finish the ‘hidden’ Quest called ” A Strange Artifact “.
  • Once that is completed, Delgren will send you to Stormwind City via a Quest called ” Advice From Stormwind “.
  • When you go to Stormwind, you will have to find Katherine the Pure at (38, 32). She will give you a follow up Quest called ” A Second Opinion “.
  • This sends you to Ursula Deline in Stormwind at (26, 77). She will give you the next Quest called ” Earning Your Salt“. From this point the ‘farm’ begins.

This Quest will take you to Redridge Mountains where you will have to Kill Blackrock Orcs. The Elite ones have a higher chance of dropping the Summoner’s Salt, but it’s far easier to kill the non-elite ones and you’ll still be able to farm it.

  • Once you’ve gathered 14x Summoner’s Salt, you will head back to Ursula to turn it in, she will then give you the next Quest called “It Must Be Destroyed“.

This is the second ‘farm’ Quest of this chain. It will send you to Ashenvale and into the Demon Fall Canyon. Within the Canyon you will have to defeat the Demons (Infernals, Felguards etc.) until you get 12x Mote of Mannoroth.

  • The next step is to go to (89, 77) in Ashenvale. The Spear of Mannoroth is there and once you click on it, you will get the Shattered Orb.
  • Obtaining the Shattered Orb will basically be another turn in of the Quest ” Return to Delgren “.
  • This is exactly what you have to do and go to Delgren the Purifier that is located at (26, 39) in Ashenvale and give him the Orb Fragments.

After doing this you will be Rewarded with Divine Storm Rune which teaches you to Engrave Chest – Divine Storm. One of the more difficult Paladin Runes in SoD Phase 2.

Note: While Gathering the Mote of Mannoroth and the Salt from Blackrock Orcs, keep in mind that there was a ‘bug’ which only allowed a fixed amount of these Unique items to be in your possession.
For example: You can only have 12 Mote of Mannoroth in your Inventory at a time. This means that if you had 11 Motes in your bags, and a Demon dropped 2 of them, you might forget to loot it because it wouldn’t allow you to take 2 of them.

This would require you to remove 1 Mote from your stack and delete it from your inventory before looting the Demon and getting a total of 12 in your bags.

How to get the Avenger’s Shield Rune for Paladin in SoD Phase 2

One of the easier Paladin Runes to get is definitely the Rune of the Avenger. Here’s how to get it:

  • Go to Redridge Mountains and find Dro’zem the Blasphemous. He spawns in the Orc camps in Redridge Mountains, it’s a bit of a hassle to find him, but you can find him at the camp located at (77, 70), it seems that location is where he was found most of the time.

Once you defeat him, you will loot the Rune of the Avenger which allows you to Engrave Pants – Avenger’s Shield.

How to get the Exorcist Rune for Paladin in SoD Phase 2

A Simple Rune similar to Crusader Strike among Paladin Runes is the Rune of the Exorcist. Bear in mind that this Rune can only be obtained when you are Level 24.

Note: The requirements are that you have Exorcism and Turn Undead trained.

This is how you get it:

  1. Firstly, we will go to Duskwood. Specifically, go to Yorgen Farmstead at (50, 78) and Raven Hill around (22, 71).
  2. When you’re on either place, kill the Defias Night Runner or other Defias around.
  3. They will drop the Libram of Banishment.
  4. Once you obtain the Libram, you will have to equip it and find some Undead enemies.
  5. You have to use Turn Undead and Exorcism to kill 5 of them.

When you do that, your Libram will be ‘charged’ and you will be able to use it to get the Exorcist Rune which will allow you to Engrave Pants – Exorcist.

How to get the Divine Sacrifice Rune for Paladin in SoD Phase 2

As with other Classes, the Paladin Runes also have one that requires you to go to Grizzby in Ratchet. From the start, you should know that this is one of the more ‘expensive’ Paladin Runes in SoD. In order to get the Rune of Sacrifice in Season of Discovery, there are a few Quests that you have to finish. However, do not fret – in Phase 2 of SoD it’s quite easy to obtain this by simply purchasing the majority off of the Auction House, and killing some Elites in the Wetlands. Lets get into more detail on what you have to do to get this Rune.

  1. First off, you will have to go to Ratchet in the Barrens and find Grizzby (62, 39). He is located inside the Inn.
  2. The First Quest is more of a turn-in than an actual Quest, considering you can take the necessary items even before you go and talk to him. So best be prepared to bring:
  3. Hand in the quest to the following NPCs in your faction’s capital:
  4. After the turn-ins. Grizzby will give you a Quest ” Let Me Make You An Offer “(A).
  5. You will turn in these Quests in the Capital Cities of either Faction:
    • (A) Master Wood in Old Town in Stormwind City (79.2, 47.6).
  6. After that, you will get another Quest which will bring you back to Grizzby in Ratchet:
  7. Once you’ve handed in this Quest, Grizzby will offer to sell you the Rune of Sacrifice – for 3 Gold.

Get the Gold, buy the Rune and you’ll get the Rune of Sacrifice which allows you to Engrave Pants – Divine Sacrifice.

Note: Bear in mind that you have to be Level 20 in order to begin the turn in Quests. If you can’t see it, your Character Level is too low.

How to get the Beacon of Light Rune for Paladin in SoD?

Another ‘easy’ pick-up among the Paladin Runes is definitely the Rune of Beckoning Light. By turning in Waylaid Supplies and Supply Shipments, you will be able to raise the Reputation with the Factions added in Season of Discovery to FRIENDLY! Once you’ve done that it’s only a matter of getting the necessary Gold to purchase the Rune once you’ve gotten the Reputation up.

  • You purchase this from the Azeroth Commerce Authority faction when you are Friendly. The Vendor is located inside any of the Major Cities.

The cost of this Rune is 4 Gold and 50 Silver at Friendly Reputation. The price goes down if you have a higher Reputation. Once you’ve purchased the Rune of Beckoning Light, you simply learn it and you can Engrave Gloves – Beacon of Light!

How to get the Enlightened Judgements Rune for Paladin in SoD?

A fairly simple, but quite useful of the Paladin Runes is definitely the Rune of Piety. It’s important to note that Level 34 is required if you hope to obtain this Rune. This is because you need Divine Shield. This is how to get it:

  • Firstly, you will have to go into Arathi Highlands.
  • Once you’re there, you will just have to kill any mobs in the Zone. Ogres, Syndicate, Trolls, Dwarves, Kobolds etc.
  • You are looking for these 3 items:
  1. Tarnished Prayer Bead I
  2. Tarnished Prayer Bead II
  3. Tarnished Prayer Bead III
  • The idea is for you to Purify these beads, but in order to do that, you must have some Skills in your arsenal to turn these beads into Divine Prayer Beads.
  1. Divine Prayer Bead I: You need to have the Tarnished Prayer Bead I, in your inventory and Cast Blessing of Might before Killing an enemy.
  2. Divine Prayer Bead II: You need to have the Tarnished Prayer Bead II, in your inventory and cast Divine Shield while having less than 10% HP.
  3. Divine Prayer Bead III: You need to have the Tarnished Prayer Bead III, in your inventory and use Judgment while having the Seal of Justice on a mob that is FLEEING.
  • Once you obtain all three of the divine beads, you will be able to combine them and get the Rosary of the Light.
  • Take the Rosary to Brother Atticus in Stormgarde Keep around (27.2, 57.0).

When you’ve done this, Atticus will give you the Rune of Piety which will allow you to Engrave Belt – Enlightened Judgements.

How to get the Guarded by the Light Rune for Paladin in SoD?

If you wish to get one of the more useful Paladin Runes, then it’s definitely the Rune of the Guardian. Here’s how:

Note: You must be Level 30 and have the Divine Intervention Rune trained. Also, you must bring someone that has the ability to RESURRECT! you.

  1. Journey to the Alterac Mountains. Specifically to the Ruins of Alterac at (39.7, 60.8).
  2. There you will find the Frozen Remains.
  3. Loot the Dormant Holy Rune from the Frozen Remains.
  4. Use Divine Intervention on another player who is able to resurrect you and then die.

Once the person that you used Divine Intervention on Resurrects you, the Rune of the Guardian will be in your inventory. When you use it, you will gain the ability to Engrave Boots – Guarded by the Light.

Note: When you loot the Dormant Holy Rune, you can go anywhere to die, even in a Major City where there’s a lot of Players. You don’t have to wait for someone to be in Hillsbrad or Alterac.

How to get the Sacred Shield Rune for Paladin in SoD Phase 2?

One of the simplest Paladin Runes in Season of Discovery is the Sacred Shield Rune. As with most of other ‘simple’ Runes for this Class, you must obtain a Libram, a Libram of Deliverance to be exact. Lets see the fastest way to do this:

  1. Go to Nijel’s Point (the Alliance base) located in the Northern part of Desolace at (66.5, 7.6).
  2. Once you’re there, you have to enter the Inn and go to the second Level.
  3. There you will find a Brown book on the bench.
  4. When you loot it, you will get the Libram of Deliverance.

All you have to do is use Blessing of Freedom on 5 Players that are affected by movement-impairing effects. Doing this will allow you to use the Libram and gain the ability to Engrave Boots – Sacred Shield.

  3. When you talk to him, he will provide you with Ariden’s Sigil. This is a crucial Trinket in obtaining the Rune of Close Combat.
  4. By using this trinket at the proper locations, you will be able to summon forth a Dark Rider.
  5. Before letting you know the locations it’s important to note that when you arrive at the location you will have to use the Ariden’s Sigil Trinket while having the Dark Presence, this is the only way a Dark Rider will be summoned.

How to get the Sheath of Light Rune for Paladin in SoD?

The Final among the Paladin Runes is definitely one of the more difficult ones to obtain and it’s the Sheath of Light Rune. In order to get this Rune you must be at least Level 26 & have the Divine Storm Rune so that you can see the Hammer needed to start your journey for the Sheath of Light!

Here’s how to get it:

  1. First of all, we will have to go to Desolace again (or be there still). Concretely we will have to be in the Mannoroc Cove at (52.6, 84.8).
  2. There we will find the Broken Hammer which starts the Quest called ” The Broken Hammer “(innovative).
  3. You will have to kill the Burning Blade Summoner until you get the Torn Letter.
  4. Afterwards, you will have to turn in the Quest to Katherine the Pure. She is located in Stormwind City Cathedral at (37.8, 31.6).
  5. She will give you a follow up Quest called ” A Lost Brother ” (this is the part where you have to be Level 26).
  6. Speak with Katherine and then turn in the Quest.
  7. After that is done, you will have to go to Wetlands. There you will talk to Harold Finehair(jk.), Harold Riggs at Menethil Harobor around (8.2, 58.6).
  8. Next we will have to go to Newman’s Landing at (18.0, 74.5). In order to reach this place, you should start swimming from the Wetlands along the coast of Dun Morogh until you get to the docks.
  9. Once you’re there, find a body of a fallen crusader and click it.
  10. This will spawn the Scarlet Crusade Assassin that you have to kill.
  11. After Killing the Assassin, you will loot ” Orders from the Grand Crusader ” letter which starts the Quest (guess what?) called ” Orders from the Grand Crusader “.
  12. Once this is done, you have to go back to Katherine the Pure in Stormwind and turn in the Quest.
  13. She will give you a follow-up called “Aeonas the Vindicated “.
  14. This will take you into the Scarlet Monastery: Cathedral.
  15. There you will have to defeat High Inquisitor Whitemane and In her room, you’ll find Aeonas the Vindicated.

When all that is done, you will go back to Katherine in Stormwind and she will Reward you with the Rune of Sheath of Light which goes into the Waist slot.
